Avera Kicks Off LiveNow Wellness Challenge
SIOUX FALLS – In the spirit of living a better, more balanced life, Avera Health in June kicked off its community wide LiveNow wellness challenge in Sioux Falls.
This innovative approach to health and wellness is meant to challenge people in the community to make small lifestyle changes for sustainable, long-term results. Maintaining a healthy weight and active lifestyle can decrease risk for a variety of health issues ranging from some cancers to diabetes, heart disease and stroke.
Yet, obesity in the United States continues to rise with more than one-third Americans considered overweight, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
“It’s our hope that with attainable goals and monthly challenges we can encourage people in the Sioux Falls community to become their healthiest selves and also have a little fun,” said Tad Jacobs, Chief Medical Officer with Avera Medical Group. “A healthy lifestyle goes right along with health care and prevention, so this community challenge is a natural progression of goals to promote general well-being.”
This community challenge is free and open to anyone in the Sioux Falls area. People can sign up at an AveraNow clinic inside one of several Sioux Falls Hy-Vee stores where they can also check in periodically to measure progress. Participants will receive at no cost:
- A store tour with a Hy-Vee dietitian
- Weekly check-ins
- Community wellness events
- Monthly wellness tips and challenges with membership perks
- Weight and inches monitoring
Events will include wellness workshops, zumba classes and screenings and cooking classes. Check the calendar section at Avera.org for upcoming events.
