Operating Rooms

We have a highly trained, dedicated staff of nurses, surgical technicians, instrument technicians, surgeons, anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists providing your individualized care during surgery and recovery. We have eight operating rooms - five general multi-use suites, two GI endoscopy suites, and one urology suite.

Same Day Surgery

Approximately 80% of surgeries performed at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital are same day surgeries. Our dedicated staff of nurses, patient care technicians, anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists provides patients with personal and individualized care. We have 13 private rooms, each with its own television. The surgical suites are adjacent to the Same Day Surgical area, decreasing patient transport distance before and after surgery. With a spacious waiting room, families and visitors are welcome to the snacks, coffee and other goodies that may be provided. During regular hours of operation, there is a volunteer hostess available in the waiting room to help or to answer any questions that may come up from the families or visitors.

A phone interview is usually conducted one to two days prior to the surgical procedure to review instructions about that procedure. Generally, patients are asked to abstain from eating or drinking after midnight the day of surgery (please refer to specific instructions given to you by your doctor). Arrival time is approximately 90 minutes prior to scheduled start (please refer to specific instructions given to you by your doctor).
