HealthGrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award 2011
Avera Sacred Heart Hospital is the recipient of the 2011 HealthGrades’ Outstanding Patient Experience Award. This distinction recognizes hospitals for offering exemplary service to patients, and is awarded to the top 10% of hospitals in the country. ASHH is one of only 339 hospitals recognized for this award.
HealthGrades’ Outstanding Patient Experience Award recognizes hospitals for their patient satisfaction based on their patients’ experiences in their hospital. HealthGrades analyzed satisfaction data for 3,797 hospitals in the country using HCAHPS. HCAHPS utilized data released in December 2010 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This data covers patients discharged between April 2009 and March 2010.
To be considered for the Outstanding Patient Experience Award, a hospital had to have:
- More than 100 survey responses
- At least 50 acute care beds
- A minimum HealthGrades average star rating of 2.5
The 27 questions are rolled up to provide ten measures:
- Overall rating
- Recommendation to family/friends
- Communication with doctors
- Communication with nurses
- Responsiveness of hospital staff
- Pain management
- Communication about medicines
- Discharge information
- Cleanliness
- Quietness
Finally, hospitals were ranked according to the ranking score. The hospitals with rankings in the top 10% of all hospitals considered were designated as Outstanding Patient Experience Award recipients.
