If you have experienced heart problems, a cardiac rehab program can get your heart in gear, improve your health and help you live longer. The Avera Sacred Heart cardiac rehabilitation program concentrates on lifestyle changes, including diet and exercise, as well as psychological issues.
Programs are customized for each person's needs. The exercise component is designed to help patients achieve and maintain a healthy weight and control diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, reduce stress and increase energy levels. Relocated in the RWI, cardiac therapists are available five days a week for Phase 2 and 3 of cardiac outpatient and rehab care. Cardiac Rehab, Phase 1 is located in the hospital.
If you feel short of breath most of the time, can't breathe well enough to tolerate even moderate exercise or frequently cough, you may be a good candidate for pulmonary rehab. Now relocated in the Rehab and Wellness Institute, pulmonary therapists are available five days a week to assist patients through Phase 2 and 3 of the program which combines education, exercise training and behavioral intervention to help restore patients to the highest possible level of independent living. Pulmonary Rehab, Phase 1, is located in the hospital.
