Avera St. Benedict Health Center is a fully licensed and accredited medical facility. The Health Center has six entities:

The Hospital

Avera St. Benedict Hospital

Avera St. Benedict Hospital is staffed with an experienced team combined with "state-of-the-art" technology. Our professionals are trained in advanced life support and trauma.

Services include laparoscopic or general surgical services; medical, OB, pediatrics, Avera eICU® care. We offer 24-hour emergency care services.

Avera St. Benedict obstetrics offers natural child birth, intrathecal blocks, or C-sections, and family centered maternal child care.

Clinics

Avera St. Benedict Certified Rural Health Clinics

The Avera St. Benedict Certified Rural Health Clinics offer a wide variety of health services with 3 family practice physicians and 4 physician assistants.  The clinics accept Medicare and Medicaid assignments and offer 24 hour emergency care - outpatient hospital.

Services include obstetrics with OB ultrasound, delivery with intrathecal block; pediatrics with inhalation therapy and IV therapy; family practice, geriatrics; disease management; hormone replacement therapy; 24-hour emergency care - outpatient hospital.

The clinics accept Medicare and Medicaid assignments, Medicare-approved prescription cards and a patient assistance program through pharmaceutical companies.

Long Term Care

Bormann Manor

Avera Bormann Manor, a 50-bed Medicare and Medicaid Certified Nursing Home, formerly known as Bormann Manor, was established in 1988 by St. Benedict Hospital. Private and double occupancy rooms are available and the Manor is staffed 24 hours a day with qualified nurses. Physical Therapists evaluate and design exercise programs and daily and evening activities are scheduled to meet social needs. A private dining area is available for family gatherings and financial, Social Services, and Pastoral Care is a part of the Avera Bormann Manor program. Adult Day Services are also offered at Avera Bormann Manor, and a chapel is accessible for scheduled services and daily personal use.

Wellness Center

Avera St. Benedict Wellness Center

The Avera St. Benedict Wellness Center includes a swimming pool, massage therapy, cardiovascular equipment, resistance machines, free weights, community education programs, classes and events.

Daycare

Avera St. Benedict Day Care

The Avera St. Benedict Day Care is licensed by the State of South Dakota and is Medicaid approved. Our staff are CPR and First Aid trained. We also have a licensed Child Care Director.

Our History

Our History

February 10th, 1934, the Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Heart Convent and Dr. J.L. Waldner started what we know as, the Avera St. Benedict Health Care Center, which contained twelve beds. With the new hospital wing opening in 1946 with 34 beds and 12 bassinets, continued to grow and expand until building a new 38 bed acute care hospital in 1965.  August of 1988 St. Benedict purchased the Supervised Living homes and attaching the Intermediate Long Term Care Facility in 1989.  In 1992 a 3,600 square foot addition was added and Avera St Benedict Health Center.
