A live CME videoconference with Alex Rabinovitch, MD, Professor of Pediatrics, The University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, Sioux Falls, SD.

Educational Goal:  To provide continuing education to pediatric health professionals on relevant clinical issues and advances in pediatrics.

 

Objectives:

1. Name the three general approaches being studied as ways to replace the pancreatic β-cells lost in patients with type 1 diabetes

2. Identifying clinical conditions in which the pancreatic β-cell mass increases

3. Be familiar with the objectives, test agents, and inclusion critieria of the Sanford Project's first clinical trial for type 1 diabetes, REPAIR-T1D

4. Be familiar with the "hygiene hypothesis" and evidence for its role in allergies and autoimmune diseases, including type 1 diabetes
