Description

Objectives:

1. Understand health literacy and its impact on health outcomes.

2. Learn what teach back is and understand its role in the clinical setting.

3. Review resources available through Minnesota Health Literacy Partnership.

Avera St. Luke's Hospital presents a Live Webinar "Using Teach Back to Promote Clear Communication and Improve Health Literacy".

Program Overview: Studies have shown that 40-80% of the medical information that patients receive is forgotten immediately and nearly half the information retained is incorrect. One of the easiest ways to close the gap of communication between clinician and patient is to employ the "teach back" method. This method confirms that you have explained to the patient what they need to know in a way they can understand. In this session, presenters will teach participants how to identify and use strategies such as teach back to promote patient engagement by improving communication and health literacy.
