Nursing Internship Program

Avera St. Luke's Summer Intern Program is a clinical enrichment program designed to allow educational and clinical experience for senior nursing students.

This nine-week program was developed for the student who has completed the third year of a baccalaureate nursing program and is two semesters or less away from graduation. The purpose of our program is to provide educational experiences for the summer intern to establish prioritization, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. In addition, the summer intern is provided with extensive patient care opportunities to apply knowledge and enhance clinical expertise.

Our program is designed to pair a summer intern with a preceptor in the clinical setting. A comprehensive hospital and nursing orientation is provided.

This program has been approved by the South Dakota State Board of Nursing.

Application Deadline

Application deadline: December 1 of each year.

Application Requirements

• Complete an Avera St. Like’s employee application form.
• Submit a current transcript from your college/university with documentation of cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale.
• Submit two letters of recommendation by nursing instructors.
• Provide a personal statement of expectations for participation in our Summer Intern Program.
