Avera St. Luke's Mental Health Unit Treatment Steps

A Treatment Plan for Your Individual Needs

The first few days on the unit will be a time of assessment and evaluation. This may include a physical and psychiatric examination and/or nursing, occupational and therapeutic recreational therapy assessments. It could also include psychological and social worker evaluations.

A chemical dependency consultation is available as well as psychological testing if ordered. All services provided are specialized to meet your individual needs.

Your involvement in various treatment programs will be determined by you, your physician and the treatment team. Our program provides you with an environment in which you can interact with your peers and staff members. There are group and individual therapy programs available and members of the treatment team will help determine your individual needs. Nurses offer support and provide educational needs regarding your illness and medication.

Discharge and After-Care Services

Discharge planning is the third step of treatment provided by our Mental Health Unit. This begins on the day of admission and is tailored to fit your individual needs. The team will provide you with recommendations on the best way to care for yourself once you leave the hospital. This is done so you can continue to have a successful recovery.
