Effects of Diabetes
Diabetes can affect you both physically and emotionally. With the right combination of healthy practices and careful planning, you can avoid serious complications and remain healthy with diabetes!
Diabetes Complications
Diabetes can cause many serious complications. Keeping blood sugars in the goal range of 80 to 120 mg/dl before meals can significantly reduce the risk.
Complications can affect your eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and blood vessels. You and your doctor can do several things to detect and treat problems early.
The American Diabetes Association recommends several monitoring and screening guidelines.
If you experience diabetes complications, we can provide you with more information on treatment and symptom management.
Emotional Effects of Diabetes
Living with diabetes is challenging. You might experience feelings such as denial, anger, fear, guilt or depression. These feelings are normal.
However, if feelings are not addressed they can become an obstacle in taking good care of yourself. If any of these emotions become long term or affect your daily life, it is important to get help. Counselors, psychologists, social workers, ministers or other trained professionals can assist you in working through your feelings.
We offer a diabetes support group to provide you with additional resources and the opportunity to talk with other people who have diabetes.
