Advanced Pain Therapies (APT)
Advanced Pain Therapies provide treatment options for people with chronic pain who have not been adequately helped, have undesirable side effects, or complications from standard treatments. APT can offer good to excellent pain relief, and can improve the patient’s quality of life.
Neurostimulation
Neurostimulation uses a small system that is surgically placed under the skin to send mild impulses to the spinal cord. These impulses block the pain signal from reaching the brain. Because neurostimulation works in the area where pain signals travel, impulses can be directed to the specific sites where pain is being felt. Some areas where this can be helpful are:
- Failed Back Surgery Syndrome
- Neuralgia
- Painful Neuropathies
- Radiculopathies
- RSD
Intrathecal Therapy
Intrathecal Therapy uses a small pump that is surgically placed under the skin to deliver medication directly to the intrathecal space via a small catheter that is surgically placed. Because the drug is delivered directly to where the pain signals travel, this can offer significant pain control with a small fraction of the oral dose. Examples of some areas where we may be able to provide help:
- Abdominal Pain
- Cancer Pain
- Failed Back Surgery Syndrome
- Osteoporosis
- Painful Neuropathies
Medication Management
There are a variety of medications that can be used for the treatment of pain. A complete assessment of past and current medications is reviewed prior to prescribing medications.
