May is Health Care Month in Wessington Springs
In observance of Wessington Springs Health Care Month, Mayor Greg Vavra joined the Health Education Team for a photo and signed an Executive Proclamation designating the month of May as Wessington Springs Health Care Month. Health care is an important industry in Wessington Springs providing 121 full time equivalent jobs within the community relating to the health care field.
In observance of Hospital and Nursing Home Week, May 6-12, kindergarten through 2nd grade students will visit the hospital and manor. They will sing for the manor residents and tour the various manor and hospital departments to become comfortable and hear about health care careers.
Nurses Week will be recognized May 6-12 and Emergency Medical Services Week will be observed May 20-26. Marla Feistner, the Community Health Nurse will be offering free blood pressure checks at Hillcrest Heights Community Room from 9-10:30 a.m. and at the Senior Community Center on Tuesday, May 8th from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. In honor of National Women’s Health Week, female patients at Jerauld County Community Health Center may register for a “Women’s Health Awareness Treat-Filled Tote” between May 13th and 19th.
The Community Health Nurse Office and Jerauld County Community Health Center also offer free Blood Pressure screenings at their offices. Springs Parish Nurse “Healthy Hints” are inserted in church bulletins each month. The Springs Parish Nurse Health Cabinet is seeking an individual to fill the position of a part-time Parish Nurse.
