Video: A New Norm

Stress, loss, anxiety and sadness — everyone has dealt with these emotions during the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. This time has been especially difficult for children who may not have the ability to recognize these feelings and express them.

That’s why Avera and Children’s Home Society have developed a video featuring author Tom Roberts and Certified Nurse Practitioner from Avera Behavioral Health, Amber Reints, PMHNP, about how parents can help children recognize mental health issues. It can also teach them how to help children cope with them and when to seek help.

Last year Children’s Home Society and Avera published the book, ‘A New Norm’, an inspirational story intended to touch the lives of children, adolescents and even adults who struggle with difficulties in life and who want to find a path to wellness.

This video utilizes the resources in the book and frames it in a relatable, conversational way for COVID-19. Avera and Children’s Home are sharing this resource with you hoping it can be helpful with your students or clients. Please feel free to share and utilize these resources.

A New Norm landing and resource page offers a video and additional resources, including a discussion guide.
