Essential Oil Scrub Recipes

Scrubbing your skin actually benefits your health. In addition to being great for your skin, body scrubs detoxify your whole system, and stimulates blood and lymph circulation, which helps fight cellulite and tone skin.

These recipes – one with oatmeal, one without – allow for a wide range of variations. Both are great when fighting dry skin in cold weather.

Oatmeal Body Scrub

Ingredients

  • ½ cup uncooked oatmeal or rolled oats, divided (any unflavored kind will work)
  • ¼ cup almonds, ground fine
  • 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
  • 9 drops palmerosa essential oil
  • 2 drops geranium essential oil
  • 2 drops chamomile essential oil

Directions

  1. In separate batches, grind ¼ cup of the oats and then the almonds. Use a coffee grinder that is clean and grind until you have both as a fine texture.
  2. Using a metal spoon, stir all ingredients together in a glass or ceramic bowl. You can actually stir them in the jar you intend to keep it them, too. Remember to use dark glass or PET plastic.
  3. Drop in the essential oils, placing each drop in its own little spot on top of the oatmeal body scrub mixture. Stir until thoroughly mixed.
  4. When you're ready to use your homemade body scrub, stir in the sweet almond oil.
  5. To use, take a quick, warm shower to wet your skin. Standing in the bathtub, massage the oatmeal body scrub into your skin using gentle circular motions until your skin is rosy from the increased circulation.
  6. Rinse off under the shower, towel dry and moisturize.

Homemade Body Scrub Recipe

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup rolled oats, ground fine
  • ¼ cup wheat bran
  • 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • ½ cup full-fat yogurt
  • 14-20 drops of essential oils

Directions

  1. Grind the oats to a fine texture using a coffee grinder. (Make sure it's well cleaned first so your homemade body scrub doesn't end up smelling like coffee.)
  2. Using a metal spoon, stir the oats and wheat bran together in a glass or ceramic bowl. You can actually stir them in the jar you intend to keep it them, too. Remember to use dark glass or PET plastic.
  3. Drop in the essential oils, placing each drop in its own little spot on top of the oatmeal body scrub mixture.
  4. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Store in a cool, dark location until you're ready to give yourself a body scrub treatment. When you're ready to use your homemade body scrub, stir together the yogurt, honey and sweet almond oil in a medium-sized bowl. Add all of the oatmeal mixture and stir well to combine.
  5. To use, take a quick, warm shower to wet your skin. Standing in the bathtub, massage the homemade body scrub into your skin using gentle circular motions until your skin is rosy from the increased circulation.
  6. Rinse off under the shower, towel dry and moisturize.
