Everyday Habits That Impact and Improve Your Health
If you’re feeling stuck in a rut, it may be time to shake up your daily routine and help your body feel energized again. And you’ll be pleased to know that this doesn’t require an entire overhaul of your life. In fact, adopting just a few healthy daily habits can make all the difference in the world. Avera Family Medicine Physician, Dr. Ashley VanDyke, shares a few examples of how to incorporate healthy habits into your routine.
1. The Importance of Sleep
- 6-8 hours every night
- Avoid eating/snacking before bed as this helps maintain a healthy metabolism
- Avoid the Blue light screens
- Getting enough sleep helps the body reset and stay in rhythm to digest our food and not pack it on.
2. Perfect Your Posture
- be aware of your ergonomics while at your desk
- Avoid too much "Text Neck" by spending too much time looking down at phone or other devices.
- Make walking breaks a part of your work day
- Back pain is the #1 health problem affecting Americans, posture and even moderate exercise go a long way.
3. Snack Smart
- Avoid preservatives and salty snacks
- Go clear: drink water to stay hydrated
- As we age our metabolism slows and holds onto those sugars and salts.
- Not only is this the first step to losing excess weight, but it helps keep heart disease at bay and also lowers your cancer risk.
