Super easy and big on taste, this pizza burger recipe is filled with tasty mozzarella and sun-dried tomatoes, then topped with pesto and pizza sauce. Perfect for grilling season.
Grilled Pizza Burgers
Makes: 4
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons chopped sun-dried tomatoes in oil
- ¼ cup finely chopped onion
- ¼ cup finely chopped fresh mushrooms
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon dried basil
- 2 ounces shredded fresh mozzarella cheese
- 1 pound lean ground beef (or turkey)
- 2 tablespoons pesto sauce
- ½ cup pizza sauce
- whole-wheat hamburger buns
Directions
- Mix burger ingredients in a small bowl, adding ground beef last. You can use your fingers, but don't overwork the meat.
- Shape into 4 patties. Cover and refrigerate until ready to cook.
- Heat grill to medium high. Cook the burgers 4 minutes each side or until cooked through.
- Place burger on bun. Top with pesto and pizza sauce.
- Optional garnishes to add color and flavor: pepperoni, roasted red peppers, black olives, pine nuts, fresh tomatoes, lettuce.
