Recipe: Teriyaki Turkey Burgers

Grilling season celebration is limited only by the grill enthusiast's imagination. This recipe combines sweet and savory to give you even more fuel for creative cooking this summer.

Burgers can be made on the grill or in the kitchen. Just a few extra steps can have any of them ready to pack along for a picnic.

Teriyaki Turkey Burgers

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground turkey
  • ¼ cups scallions, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh grated ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoons Stevia or sweetener of your choice
  • 1 cup chopped onion (use leeks if you need lower carbs)
  • ¼ teaspoon of sesame oil (or other light oil)

Directions

  1. To make the sauce combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, sweetener and onion (or leeks) into a pan. Simmer 5-7 minutes until onions/leeks are soft. Stir in sesame oil. Set aside.
  2. Heat grill to medium high.
  3. Combine turkey, scallions, garlic, ginger and pepper in a bowl. Divide mixture into four 4-ounce patties.
  4. Cook the burgers 4 minutes each side or until cooked through.
  5. Ladle the sauce over each burger and enjoy!
  6. You can make the sauce in advance at home and pack it along, then warm it on the grill in a disposable tinfoil pan.
