Tips for Healthier Burgers
- Choose 93% lean ground beef, turkey or chicken, venison or bison
- Use low-fat options such as Swiss or extra sharp cheddar cheese
- Top your burger with grilled mushrooms, grilled or raw onions, lettuce and tomatoes to add flavor, texture and nutrients
- Pickles are a low-calorie option, but be mindful of sodium
- Mustard has zero calories and loads of flavor
- Try olive oil mayonnaise to cut calories and fat
- Top it with a whole-grain bun for extra fiber
Grilling Tricks
- Press a dimple into the center of the patty with your thumbs or the back of a spoon. This will help to minimize shrinking and result in a nice flat burger, instead of a burger ball.
- Get the grill nice and hot to help get the caramelized crust on the outside of your patty.
