Rural Registered Nurses
Rural nurses have close ties to the communities they serve through every day interactions. Along with a passion for small-town living, their practice often gives them a good amount of autonomy and independence due to fewer patient numbers spread out over larger areas. The best rural nurses are generalists who enjoy many different aspects of nursing and have a strong background caring for a wide range of age groups and diverse cultures.
Most rural nurses will work from a clinic or regional hospital while others may be based out of a rural critical access hospital. Some may travel town to town as a home health nurse. Hear firsthand from an Avera rural nurse on her journey growing and practicing her skills in South Dakota.
