Discover opportunities below and contact your Avera location to learn about what’s available near you.
Nurse Residency Program For New Hires
From the start of a nursing career at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Center, you’ll experience our commitment to creating a culture of learning and support.
In order to help ease the challenge of transitioning from a student nurse to a professional nurse, all newly employed graduate nurses at Avera McKennan are enrolled into a Nurse Residency Program.
Professional Nurse Development & Career Advancement
As a registered nurse, you have the opportunity to go beyond licensure and employment requirements and become nationally certified.
Certification in your specialty demonstrates your knowledge, skills and accomplishments and is the equivalent to board certification for physicians. Achieve professional recognition by passing a nationally respected examination demonstrating your broad range of skills and clinical experience.
At Avera, you’ll be supported for your certification through reimbursement dollars and ongoing recognition.
Nearly one-third of registered nurses at Avera McKennan Hospital made the personal choice to receive their national nursing certification. They are certified in more than 20 specialty areas, such as emergency nursing, rehabilitation, cardiology, cardiac services and labor/delivery.
In addition, you may participate in additional development opportunities, such as:
- Continuing Nursing Education
- Nurse Governance Council
- Nursing Research
- Professional Nursing Achievement Program
