Welcome to Avera Med Aide On-Line Training Nebraska.
Avera Education & Staffing Solutions offers this 40-hour Medication Aide curriculum for skilled nursing home and assisted living facilities in Nebraska to utilize as the facility’s Medication Aide Training Program. The curriculum focuses on the toolset to equip staff to safely provide medication to residents. Students will engage with narrated activities, interactive questions, handouts, links, module quizzes, an on-line lab and quiz, example MARs and proctored exams in a progressive format along with required textbook reading to comprise 40 hours.
The state of Nebraska requires students in the Medication Aide Training program to be at least 18 years old and of good moral character. Med Aides working in a nursing home, an intermediate care facility for the developmentally disabled, or an assisted living facility must pass a Medication Aide Course lasting at least 40 hours and a state approved exam. Med Aides must also successfully demonstrate the 10 competencies and the basic routes.
Class Cancellation Policy: All cancellations made with 5 business days of receiving a username and password will be charged a $50 cancellation fee. Cancellations made after 5 business days will be charged the full course fee. (If a student logs into an exam at any time, the full program fee will be charged regardless of cancellation timeframe.)
Required Textbook: Mosby’s Textbook for Medication Assistants, by Karen Anderson. (Mosby’s Inc: Second Edition/2023) ISBN: 9780323790505. All chapters are required except Chapter 14 Vaginal and Rectal Drugs (consult facility). Textbook may be purchased from Elsevier Evolve or from a vendor of choice.
Program Layout: (22 hours on-line activities & 18 hours required textbook reading)
- Complete Unit 1 on-line modules and required textbook reading
- Complete Unit 1 proctored, closed-book exam with passing score of at least 72%. One retake allowed if necessary (must be completed prior to advancing to Unit 2)
- Complete Unit 2 on-line modules, on-line lab and required textbook reading
- Complete Unit 2 & Final proctored, closed-book exams with passing score of at least 72%. One retake allowed if necessary.
- Schedule competency assessment at the facility with facility RN instructor after student successfully completes course activities, exams and all required textbook reading. The facility may choose to use the AESS competency checklist tool for documentation, or another facility-approved checklist.
- Once student passes the 40-hour training program and successfully completes the competency assessment, submit the Application for Medication Aide Registration with the name of the training program “(Facility Name) 40-Hour Medication Aide Training Program.” Reminder: Check the application for completeness, ensuring the competency assessment is signed by the licensed health care professional and the fee is included in the application prior to mailing to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS.)
- Register to take the Nebraska state exam at a testing site.
- Consult Nebraska regulations and Nebraska DHHS when applicant can work as a Med Aide-40.
