This class covers labor and delivery, postpartum care for mom, newborn care, and breastfeeding. Registration includes mom and one support person. This class takes place at Avera St. Mary's Hospital in Pierre.

You will receive an email or phone call about 1 week prior to the start of the classes reminding you of the time and location and what to bring to class.

Description

Healthy Start Childbirth education is designed to prepare you for labor, birth, transitions to parenthood, baby care skills, and breastfeeding. This series covers information on labor and delivery, comfort measures and breathing techniques, and pain relief options; as well as caring for Mom & new baby after birth, and breastfeeding. A tour of the Women's Center is included and will be integrated with one of the classes. Registration for this course is for mom and her support person, this is a free class funded by the Healthy Start grant.

The first night of class will cover the end of pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum period. Night two will cover newborn cares, breastfeeding and includes a tour of the Women's Center. 

We encourage participants to bring food to enjoy during the class!
