The Caring for Your Newborn Class will give parents the information they need to feel comfortable caring for their new infant. This class covers newborn physical and behavioral traits, feeding options, bathing, diapering, circumcision care, how to cope with crying, safety issues in the home and the care of Mom for the first weeks after the delivery of the baby as well as how Dad's can be involved in newborn care. If you have registered for the Prepared Childbirth 5 week series of classes, this information is covered in those classes. This class is for those who choose to attend a Saturday Prepared Childbirth class or prefer to only take the Caring for Your Newborn class without Preparation for Childbirth. Due to COVID precautions all participants are screened prior to each class, masks are required during the class, and class sizes are currently limited. Participants are encouraged to practice safe social distancing.
This class is offered as a 4 1/2 hour Saturday morning class. Classes are held in the Avera McKennan Education Center located on the ground floor of the Orthopedic Institute at 810 E. 23rd St. The fee for this class is $40. Lunch is not provided so please bring a snack with you if you desire. Please note there is no microwave available in the building.
