A career in medicine could be considered a tradition in the family of Amal Salama, DO. Her mother was a registered nurse, and her father practiced as an OB/GYN in Worthington, MN — her hometown.
Today, Dr. Salama serves in her own obstetrics and gynecology practice at Avera Medical Group Obstetrics & Gynecology in Sioux Falls, SD.
“The wonderful thing about obstetrics and gynecology is that I get to care for people on their own personal journeys,” said Dr. Salama. Her days are filled with everything from exams to baby deliveries to surgery.
Expert Care in Obstetrics and Gynecology
As an OB/GYN, Dr. Salama cares for women’s health concerns — no matter their age. Some of her specialties include:
- Annual women’s health exams, including Pap tests
- Gynecologic surgery, including minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures
- Prenatal care and postnatal care
- Pregnancy and birth
“My goal is to treat my patients as if they were my very own family members,” said Dr. Salama.
Active Lifestyle
One of her favorite hobbies is traveling, and she tries to explore as many new places as possible.
“Because my father grew up in Egypt and my mother grew up in Ireland, one could say that traveling is instilled in me,” said Dr. Salama.
