As a board-certified obstetrics and gynecology physician at Avera Medical Group 69th & Cliff in Sioux Falls, SD, Amanda Kappenman, MD, FACOG, cares for women of all ages. She provides:
- Annual women’s health exams, including Pap tests
- Gynecologic surgery, including minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures
- Labor and delivery
- Pregnancy planning and care
As an OB/GYN, Dr. Kappenman enjoys guiding women through the experience of pregnancy and birth. “I love being part of such a monumental moment,” she says. “But I also enjoy getting to know them and hearing their stories throughout their lives.”
Dr. Kappenman hopes her patients feel comfortable sharing their concerns, viewpoints and questions. Her philosophy to providing good care begins by being a good listener so she can address each patient’s health concerns.
“Each person is different and so needs different treatment,” said Dr. Kappenman. “I want them to feel confident that together we can come up with a plan of care that addresses their needs in the best way for them.”
Research Opportunities
Dr. Kappenman has been involved in studies that research the effects of sleep apnea during pregnancy. She is eager to be involved in more research opportunities in the future.
Active Lifestyle
In her free time, Dr. Kappenman enjoys spending time with her husband and children. “My family, including extended family, is very important to me and we spend a lot of time together,” she says. They like to visit parks and festivals, spend time at the lake, ride bikes, read and watch movies and sports. She’s an avid reader, plays tennis and keeps up with sporting news.
