Andrew Figura, MD, brings years of experience in radiation oncology to the Avera Cancer Institute and also provides telehealth consultation services in his subspecialty.
Dr. Figura is a board-certified radiation oncology specialist, with additional training in general surgery. He has extensive experience in medicine, serving as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Air Force prior to completing his radiation oncology residency. He served as an emergency room doctor, family practice physician and as a medical director.
He has developed a number of innovative approaches in radiation oncology and has skill and experience in virtually every form of radiation treatment technology, including:
- 3-D Conformal
- IMRT
- Image-guided radiosurgery
- Partial breast radiation
- High-dose rate brachytherapy
- Xofigo (Radium RA-223 dichloride)
- Stereotactic ablative body radiosurgery
He is adept in the use of linac-based stereotactic radiosurgery which is offered at Avera Cancer Institute in Pierre, SD.
Active Lifestyle
Dr. Figura has a deep background as a volunteer, serving in a wide range of roles in various places he lived prior to joining the Avera Cancer Institute team. He also served as a volunteer overseas, specifically in Guatemala, and as a leader in his community’s health efforts wherever he has lived.
Dr. Figura and his wife, Dr. Laura Figura, an Avera Medical Group plastic surgeon, have three children and enjoy travel, biking and enjoying the outdoors as a family.
