International Experience
While Dr. Pocha served as a physician, researcher and medical educator in the U.S., Switzerland, Germany and the United Kingdom, she chose the unique opportunity that accompanied joining the developing efforts of Avera hepatology and liver transplant. She’s now part of a team developing a world-class liver transplant program to patients in the upper Midwest. As she aids this expert health-care effort that maintains a hometown setting, she ensures more patients receive leading-edge transplantation and hepatology care.
Physician and Teacher
As a medical educator, Dr. Pocha shares clinical expertise with medical students, residents and fellows on academic faculty at institutions worldwide. She held academic and clinical appointments in the U.S., Germany and Switzerland and currently does so in England at King’s College Hospital. It’s known as one of the most prestigious liver care and liver transplantation centers in the world. There she serves a diverse, international patient population. She now serves as associate professor of medicine at the University of South Dakota.
Fellowships, Research and Writing
Beyond the exam rooms of Avera Transplant Institute, Dr. Pocha led numerous large research programs on hepatitis C and liver cancer and contributes to medicine as author of numerous medical journal publications. She has presented her research at national and international conferences and an engaged member of a professional society focused on liver-related conditions. She earned master’s degree in public health as well as medical and doctoral degrees. Dr. Pocha is a board-certified internal medicine and gastroenterology/hepatology physician. Her ongoing research focuses on liver disease and related complications.
Personal Interests
Dr. Pocha takes time to enjoy the many countries she visits with her family. An avid hiker, cyclist and diver, she explores the natural world wherever she goes.
