Minimally Invasive, Image-Guided Procedures

As a board-certified and fellowship-trained interventional radiologist, Dr. Yim has specialized training and experience in using the latest in technology and minimally invasive, image-guided techniques for non-surgical procedures for various conditions.

His areas of clinical expertise include:

  • Bone, spine, liver and soft tissue tumors
  • Lung, esophageal and kidney cancer
  • Vertebral compression fractures
  • Peripheral arterial/vascular disease
  • Renal artery/vascular disease
  • Uterine fibroid tumors
  • Vascular malformations
  • Venous thromboembolism

Look to Dr. Yim for procedures such as radiofrequency ablation for lung, liver, kidney, bone and spine tumors; transcatheter arterial chemoembolization/radioembolization for liver cancer; embolization of uterine fibroid tumors, cryoablation for pain control, vertebroplasty/kyphoplasty and endovenous ablation of varicose veins.

A Passion for Teaching & Innovation

Dr. Yim has a long academic career dedicated to the highest level of clinical practice, innovation and education. He has taught medical students, residents and fellows at Johns Hopkins Hospital, University of California Irvine Medical Center and Emory University Hospital. His expertise is featured in over 50 publications, oral presentations and abstract presentations. He brings that same expertise and passion to Avera.

“It’s important to me to stay at the forefront of my specialty so that I am able to present the most up-to-date medical information to my patients so that they can make informed decisions about their health care. I am a big believer in patient autonomy and my role is to facilitate their health at the highest level through providing sophisticated, minimally invasive, image-guided procedures.”

In addition to his work at Avera, he is a clinical professor at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine, where he volunteers his time to teach medical students.

Active Lifestyle

In his free time, Dr. Yim enjoys time with his wife, four daughters and son. He loves to exercise and is an avid reader – both personally and professionally. He regularly reviews scientific papers for several medical journals and teaches physicians throughout the country about the latest in image-guided spinal techniques. He sits on several committees for the Society of Interventional Radiology and also enjoys traveling to India on medical missions.
