Dr. Yim has a long academic career dedicated to the highest level of clinical practice, innovation and education. He has taught medical students, residents and fellows at Johns Hopkins Hospital, University of California Irvine Medical Center and Emory University Hospital. His expertise is featured in over 50 publications, oral presentations and abstract presentations. He brings that same expertise and passion to Avera.

In addition to his work at Avera, he is deeply involved in the teaching and mentoring of medical students through research and other scholarly activities. As the faculty advisor for the University of South Dakota Sanford Medical School Seldinger Society (Radiological Sciences Interest Group), the organization won the prestigious University of South Dakota Board of Regents Academic Excellence Award in 2018, 2019 and 2020. Dr. Yim believes investing his time into the success of medical students will ensure the best physicians for South Dakota and the best health care for the patients they will serve.
In his free time, Dr. Yim enjoys time with his wife, four daughters and son. He loves to exercise and is an avid reader – both personally and professionally. He regularly reviews scientific papers for several medical journals and teaches physicians throughout the country about the latest in image-guided spinal techniques. He sits on several committees for the Society of Interventional Radiology and also enjoys traveling to India on medical missions.
