About Me

Dr. John Faryna brings years of experience as an orthopedic spinal surgeon to Avera Orthopedics. From his residency at Mayo Clinic where he developed his passion for treating spinal diseases through his fellowship at the Spinal Institute of Arizona, he steadily advanced his skill and knowledge.

In addition to surgical approaches, Dr. Faryna works with his patients and may implement conservative measures like injections or physical therapy to address back pain or a lack of limberness. His depth of experience in minimally invasive procedures lets him address conditions you might face such as:

  • Back injuries and fractures
  • Lower back and neck pain
  • Ruptured and degenerative discs
  • Nerve pain including sciatica

Advanced Technology for Spine Care

The field of spine surgery is rapidly expanding, especially in the use of state-of-the-art technology. Navigational robotics offer surgeons a 3-D view on a screen while they perform surgery, which increases accuracy. Dr. Faryna has served as a consultant with leading spinal procedure developers, and has experience as a teaching physician who shares knowledge with his peers.

The spine specialists of Avera Orthopedics complement the neck and back program offered at the Avera Brain and Spine Institute.

Active Lifestyle

Dr. Faryna and his family enjoy travel, cooking and a wide range of outdoors activities, especially hiking and biking.
