Kelsey Holkesvik, MD, grew up around medicine her entire life: her father was a trusted physician in family medicine in their small hometown. With a love for science and a heart for caring for others, she set out to become a physician herself.
Today, Dr. Holkesvik serves as a rheumatology physician at Avera Medical Group Rheumatology in Sioux Falls, SD.
Expert Care in Rheumatology
Rheumatology allows physicians to piece together solutions for complex medical issues; the challenge intrigued Dr. Holkesvik, solidifying her specialty choice.
“The whole field is so interesting, and I have the opportunity to make people feel better,” she said.
Dr. Holkesvik uses state-of-the-art options, such joint injections, joint aspirations, infusions and medications to treat different kinds of conditions and autoimmune diseases that cause pain and swelling:
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Gout
- Lupus
- Vasculitis
- Patient-Center Rheumatology Care
Rheumatology conditions are often managed over a lifetime, meaning Dr Holkesvik has the unique privilege of getting to know her patients and walking with them for years.
“It’s a team effort,” she said. “I offer expertise, guidance and education about their condition, and the patient becomes an expert in managing their condition for the best quality of life possible.”
Active Lifestyle
When she is not working, Dr. Holkesvik enjoys spending time with her husband and loves being outdoors, whether that’s fishing, hiking or any other nature-related activity.
