Laura Figura, MD, is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon at Avera Medical Group Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. She grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and completed a degree in nutrition before earning her medical degree. Her combined residency in general and plastic surgery at Ohio State University led to several awards, including surgical house officer of the year at Columbus Children’s Hospital. During her 11-year practice in Erie, Pa., she specialized in breast reconstruction, body contouring, skin cancer removal and reconstruction, wound reconstruction and treatment of pediatric skin lesions, to name only a few.
Dr. Figura particularly enjoys transformational surgeries, such as breast reductions, abdominoplasties and arm and thigh lifts for patients who have lost weight. “It’s always rewarding to help people accomplish their goals or make their lives better.” She’s an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, with a passion for health care delivery and public education topics. She enjoys academic teaching, providing educational presentations and articles for her society. In addition, Dr. Figura also is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine.
Active Lifestyle
Dr. Figura is married to Dr. Drew Figura, Avera radiation oncologist, and the mother to sons Charlie, Sam and Ben. A stubborn beagle, Buddy, rounds out the family. She enjoys spending time with her family and appreciates long walks, great books and good humor.
