In high school, Greg DeSautel, MD, loved science. Thinking about his future, he saw how being a physician could combine his love of science with helping people.
Today, Dr. DeSautel delivers expert care and services in otolaryngology at Avera Medical Group Ear, Nose & Throat in Sioux Falls, SD.
He chose the ear, nose and throat specialty when he witnessed the placement of a cochlear implant while training in medical school. Dr. DeSautel knew that this was the important work he wanted to bring to others.
First Cochlear Implant in South Dakota
As one of his many services, Dr. DeSautel is passionate about cochlear implants for hearing loss. In fact, he was the first doctor to place cochlear implants for a patient in South Dakota.
Cochlear implants and hearing aids both help a person hear, but work differently. A hearing aid allows sound to pass through the ear and tries to compensate for the damaged area. However, a cochlear implant takes the place of the damaged area of the ear through an electrode that directly stimulates the brain.
Expert Care in Ear, Nose and Throat
Dr. DeSautel cares for patients of all ages, from children to older adults. A diverse patient population allows him the opportunity to explore and care for many different types of conditions.
He provides treatment for:
- Hearing loss
- Sinus infections
- Ear infections
- Chronic tonsillitis
- Enlarged tonsils
One of the best parts about my job is caring for kids. I treat all of my patients as if they were members of my very own family.
Active Lifestyle
“I enjoy spending time with my wife and family,” said Dr. DeSautel. He is proud of his long, happy marriage and the adults his children grew to be. He’s also involved in mission work, running marathons and golfing.
