A passion for science, especially for the biology of the human body, drew Mark Jameson, MD, PhD, to a career in medicine. During his education, his great appreciation for the functions of the head and neck — breathing, communication, eating — inspired him to pursue otolaryngology.
Today, Dr. Jameson offers his expertise and services as a head and neck surgeon at Avera Medical Group Ear, Nose & Throat in Sioux Falls, SD.
“My team and I keep quality of life at the forefront of each patient case. We work to achieve the most ideal outcome for each individual,” he said.
Treating Complex Conditions of the Ears, Nose and Throat
Dr. Jameson offers both surgical and nonsurgical solutions for a variety of conditions related to the ear, nose and throat, including:
- Mouth, throat, voicebox and sinus cancers
- Head and neck skin cancers including melanoma
- Cancers and benign tumors of the salivary glands
- Issues related to smell, taste and swallowing
Innovative Care for Ideal Outcomes
Caring for the ears, nose and throat is a sophisticated art, which is why Dr. Jameson and his team use robotic technology and the latest techniques to treat patients.
“Patients who’ve survived a head or neck cancer or an accident worry about having a situation that affects their taste or ability to talk,” said Dr. Jameson. “We can treat these effects to improve their quality of life.”
One technique Dr. Jameson frequently uses for patients with a life-limiting condition is microvascular free tissue transfer. A piece of tissue is taken from another part of the body and reconstructed into the affected head and neck area. Blood flow is reestablished to the tissue to restore function.
Active Lifestyle
When Dr. Jameson isn’t at work, he enjoys spending time with his family. They like to experience new cultures through their travels, and stay active by engaging in outdoor activities.
