About Me

Experiencing less movement to autoimmune disorders with joint or bone discomfort? Mark Vercel, DO, at Avera Medical Group Rheumatology in Sioux Falls, SD is well versed in confronting the complex immunology that results in rheumatic disease. He pursued his specialty because of the dramatic impact the use of immunologic principles have in improving patient’s day-to-day lives, including the use of biologics. Dr. Vercel is also an advocate for the musculoskeletal ultrasound in helping aid diagnosis and monitoring outcomes.

Compassionate Care Driven by Curiosity

Dr. Vercel understands that rheumatologic conditions impact patients’ lives, and how a diagnosis of an autoimmune disease such as lupus or arthritis can be frightening to receive. He works with you to help ensure longevity, yet also to help improve your quality of life through improved movement. Driven by an innate, natural curiosity, he loves teaching patients and helping them take ownership in their healing and happiness. His special interests include Rheumatology.

His advice to patients is, “Stay interested in learning about your health.” Dr. Vercel considers medicine a human connection, and strives to bring peace of mind and better outcomes to patients. “The physician-patient relationship is vital to achieving improved results,” he adds. Compassionate, collaborative care—and encouraging patients are his preferred methods of health care delivery.

Active Lifestyle

Originally from northwest Indiana, Dr. Vercel is constantly curious about the world around him, and enjoys creativity in all its forms. In his free time, he can be found gardening, woodworking, brewing, playing music and attending concerts together with his wife.
