Matthew Blake, MD, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine physician at Avera Orthopedics in Sioux Falls, SD, provides orthopedic and sports medicine care to people of all ages.

With fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery and sports medicine, you can count on Dr. Blake’s expertise in procedures such as:

Dr. Blake believes that the best way to help his patients is by taking time to understand their pain. “I sit down with them and listen to where they’re coming from and what’s not working right. I try to put them at ease by letting them know there’s something we can do to help.”

“The best part of my work is being able to walk alongside patients – who are struggling and hurting – and help them do what they want to do in life again,” he adds.

Active Lifestyle

In his free time, Dr. Blake loves spending time with his family, including his wife and five children. “I spend a lot of time helping them with homework,” he laughs. “I also enjoy going to their activities like cross country, gymnastics, soccer and football.”

He also likes to read and enjoy outdoor activities such as mountain biking, snowboarding, wakeboarding, camping, fishing and hiking.

All staff in Dr. Blake's office were great. The RN, was great answering question, and explain the plan of care. Dr. Blake was super, showed me the x-rays and explain the xray to me. Dr. Blake is very kind, great listener, and wonderful in his explanation. I would recommend him to others. Thanks for the Ortho shirt, love it. Thank you.
