About Me

Dr. Michael Knapp joined Avera Aberdeen Family Physicians in September 2007 after completing his Family Medicine Residency training at UW Health Family Medicine Clinic in Eau Claire, WI. He is a native of Sioux Falls, graduating from O’Gorman High School. He attended college at St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. After college he returned to Sioux Falls and worked at McKennan Hospital for six years as a Social Worker. In 2000, he began his medical training at Des Moines University – Osteopathic Medical Center in Des Moines, IA. He does full spectrum family medicine. Dr. Knapp is board certified in family medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. He is a certified medical consultant with the Creighton Model FertilityCare™ system (natural family planning https://www.avera.org/services/fertility/). He is currently licensed to practice in South Dakota. Dr. Knapp and his wife, Catherine, have two children, Noah and Rachel.

Dr. Knapp is always thorough, professional, and looking for ways to address concerns I bring to my apts,. He listens and tried to make various connections between what I share for symptoms/ updates, etc. I appreciate that he doesn't just throw a medication at the issues. He looks at all the factors and knows I would rather work without meds when possible.
