When Nara Judd, MD, started pursuing medical training, she thought she was going to be a family medicine provider like her father. But when the surgical rotation came around, she fell in love. In breast cancer surgery, she builds relationships and follows patients over the course of a few years — in this way similar to family medicine.
If you have breast cancer or another breast condition that requires surgery, trust Dr. Judd at Avera Medical Group Comprehensive Breast Care in Sioux Falls, SD. She’s proud to practice with this clinic, where patients have access to full-scope care and a complete, dedicated team — from screening to diagnosis, surgery and recovery.
“There’s a lot of breast cancer specialists here, from medical oncologists to breast surgeons to radiologists,” said Dr. Judd. “We’re able to stay at the cutting edge of cancer care and communicate efficiently and effectively to provide the best to patients.”
An Expert in Breast Surgery
“In breast surgery, knowledge is power,” said Dr. Judd. “I like to educate my patients about their breast condition, which helps them feel confident and empowered moving forward with a personalized approach in their treatment.”
Dr. Judd is interested in oncoplastic breast surgery, meaning she’ll remove the cancer or nodule but also implement minimally invasive techniques to help preserve the breast or minimize the effect of surgery. Some of these oncoplastic approaches include deficit-reducing lumpectomies or nipple-sparing mastectomies.
To support these cases, she might work closely with plastic surgeons.
Active Lifestyle
When she’s not at work, Dr. Judd lives a very active lifestyle. She’s married and they have a dog, Abe. Together they like to do outdoor things — like camping and hiking. For Dr. Judd, her fitness challenges include marathons and triathlons.
