Count on Patrick O’Brien, MD, for expert orthopedic care and advanced orthopedic services, including:

  • Arthroscopic surgery for the shoulder, knee, elbow and hip
  • Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and labrum surgery

Dr. O’Brien has extensive training in orthopedic surgery, including minimally invasive procedures, and sports medicine. When possible, he offers patients conservative, non-operative treatment first before considering surgery.

“My hope is that patients will feel like I did everything I could to help them,” he says. “It’s important to listen to their concerns and involve them in their care.”

Active Lifestyle

Dr. O’Brien is excited to serve his hometown community of Sioux Falls. As parents of two young children, he and his wife stay active by enjoying outdoor activities in the Sioux Falls parks and bike trails.

“Staying active is a great way to maintain your joint health. Prevention is easier than treatment. That’s why I recommend daily exercise, such as walking. Older adults can also improve their bone health by taking calcium and vitamin D supplements.”

Dr. O Brien, the trainer, and the X-ray techs were fabulous! Dr. O' Brien listened and reviewed options with me and discussed what next steps would be. He was so easy to talk to and took his time with me. The trainer was so wonderful as well- he explained all the exercises. The care and compassion provided at Avera Ortho was top notch. I highly recommend their services!
