Shawna Schmidt, MD, brings years of experience in pain management to Avera Medical Group Pain Management Aberdeen. She also provides expert anesthesiology care.

As a board-certified specialist, Dr. Schmidt understands that pain, no matter what the cause, creates many problems, physically and mentally. That’s why she uses a full spectrum of treatments in pain management, so she can help you recover and return to a fuller, more active life.

Treatment of pain can take many forms, but Dr. Schmidt will apply the approach that best fits your condition. She often meets patients when their pain is at its worst. She takes the time to know them, help them and guide them as they improve.

Active Lifestyle

When Dr. Schmidt is not seeing patients, she likes to unwind by running, and she is often busy with her five children, exploring the outdoors around Aberdeen. She is also an avid reader.

The back surgeries started in August of last year and again in March of this year. Pain in scatic area still remains and cortisone shot did not resolve the problem. I am scheduled to see a neurologist in Sioux Falls at Avera McKenna.

She was fine. I'd had a series of these injections before, so I knew how they worked, and what they felt like. This new back pain is different than before, but starting with injections is protocol, plus I had an event, so her speed and efficiency at doing this one was very helpful.

Dr Schmidt was very personable and informative about the procedure and any issues that could arise from it during. She did an outstanding job making sure I was comfortable and had no unanswered questions. She performed the procedure in a timely manner reducing the amount of time I spent in discomfort due to the position I had to lay in for the injections. She was courteous and very thorough in making sure it went well and smoothly. 10/10 I would recommend her facility to anyone.
