Avera Sports Institute and Warwick Workouts Form New Partnership
SIOUX FALLS (Feb. 27, 2013) – The Avera Sports Institute and Warwick Workouts announce a new partnership, which will enhance basketball opportunities in Sioux Falls at all age levels.
Warwick Workouts offers advanced offensive player development basketball camps and clinics for youth in grades K-12 as well as at the college and pro levels. Program founder is Shane Warwick. While previously headquartered in Rapid City, S.D., Warwick Workouts provides programs throughout the Midwest. The Rapid City program will continue as Warwick Workouts expands to Sioux Falls.
To house this new program, Avera announces plans to build a new gymnasium facility at 85th Street and Minnesota Avenue. The 17,000 square-foot space will accommodate two college regulation-size basketball courts and four regulation-size volleyball courts. Planned for opening in mid-summer, the new facility will serve as training headquarters for Warwick Workouts, as well as team basketball and volleyball training. Sioux Empire Volleyball will also be using the facility for training.
Warwick Workouts offers weekly workouts in the fall and spring, as well as clinics at area schools and summer camps, including Summer Elite Camps and college prospect camps.
The program is designed to provide athletes with a high-intensity workout that teaches the necessary skill sets including shooting, passing, ball handling and advanced offensive drills. Clinics involve customized skill development programs to fit the needs of the age and skill level of athletes. “Our first priority is skill development to help players improve their offensive game,” Warwick said.
The first K-6 workouts to be held in Sioux Falls are currently underway at the Avera Sports Institute.
Warwick is a native of Castlewood, S.D., and was a two time all-conference performer at Northern State University. He coached nine years at the collegiate level and six years at the high school level. He has won four conference championships with three different programs and has twice been named South Dakota’s Collegiate Coach of the Year.
Warwick has spent the past 10 years focusing on player development, with an emphasis on advanced offensive skills through camps and clinics with Warwick Workouts. He works with athletes throughout the country and overseas, including college programs and individual collegiate and professional athletes. In addition, Warwick Workouts will continue to host an annual pro training camp in Sioux Falls.
“The Avera mission is to make a positive impact in the lives of people and communities – ideals that we at Warwick Workouts also share. This new partnership allows us to help and serve more athletes. It was a good fit in all areas,” Warwick said.
“Our goal at the Avera Sports Institute is to offer quality programs in a variety of different sports, such as football, basketball, soccer and baseball,” said Jason Askew, ASI director. “Warwick Workouts is an excellent basketball program which comes highly recommended, and has a tremendous following in the Midwest. We’re excited to expand this program to benefit players in the Sioux Falls area as well.”
