75-Hour Program Design

The program combines online learning and videos (approximately 38 hours), required reading (approximately 17 hours), and workbook activities, including required skills checklists, totaling an estimated 55 hours of self-paced instruction.

In-person training includes a minimum of 8 hours of skills lab and a minimum of 16 hours of clinical experience.

For this course each student will need the following materials:
Course Requirements
This self-paced online course is divided into two modules. Students are guided through the course material via a Course Syllabus and online learning prompts.
Module A and Module B
After Module A and B are completed, the student will complete the skills lab portion to meet the Board of Nursing requirements.
Skills Lab
Each student is required to complete a minimum of 8-hour skills laboratory which includes demonstration by the instructor and return demonstration. The purpose of the Skill Evaluation is to assess the student’s competency of skills.
Clinical Instruction
Each student is required to complete a minimum of 16 hours of clinical instruction under the direct guidance of the facility’s RN instructor within long term care facility.
Final Exam
Once the student has completed the clinical hours. The student will complete the final exam in the course. After the student has passed with and 85% or greater, the student will then complete the SD CNA state certification exam.
SD State Certification Exam
The student is eligible to take the South Dakota State Certification Examination upon successful completion of the total 75 hours of nursing assistant training. Each student will be required to complete a computerized knowledge test consisting of 80 multiple choice randomized questions. The student will have 90 minutes to complete the exam. Once passed, student will be placed on the SD Board of Nursing Registry.
