Avera patients can track, reschedule, cancel and schedule some primary care appointments. This includes in-person primary care, e-visits and video visits.
When you log in to your MyChart account, you’ll see upcoming and past appointments. You can schedule a new appointment with a primary care provider you’ve seen in the past year, check in prior to your appointment, and message your care team about an appointment.
You may also be able to request an appointment with some providers. After filling out a short form within MyChart, that provider’s clinic will contact you to schedule your appointment.
Acute care is for acute illnesses, such as a sore throat, ear infection or minor injury. Experts at an acute care clinic can diagnose and treat most illnesses and most of these clinics have labs and X-ray available. You may see a physician, physician assistant (PA) or certified nurse practitioner (CNP). See our acute and urgent care locations.
If the situation is severe, call 911 and go to the nearest emergency room location immediately. Medical emergencies are conditions that threaten a life, limb or organ. For example, if you’re having difficulty breathing, this would be a reason to go to the ER.
If you need help deciding where to go, the Avera Medical Call Center is a free service that connects you with a registered nurse or other health professional to provide you with confidential answers to your health-related questions. You can call this nurse hotline anytime 24/7.

No, it is not advisable to use acute care as a substitute for seeing your regular doctor. Acute care does not give routine immunizations, refill medications, nor guide you through preventive care or chronic health conditions for ongoing problems.
Hours vary according to acute care location. Some have walk-in care during the weekdays and the availability to hold your spot.
An e-visit is a way to get care via Avera MyChart for certain conditions without needing to schedule an appointment or come into the clinic. We’ll ask you some questions about yourself and your symptoms, and a member of our e-visit team will respond with a care plan or recommendations for what to do next.
An e-visit should be used only for non-urgent medical conditions, as it may take up to three days to receive a response. This response time is subject to change. If you need urgent medical care, please call your clinic or visit a nearby acute care center. For medical emergencies, call 911 immediately.
