Resident Experiences

pharmacy resident

I chose to complete my residency at Avera because of the wide variety of learning opportunities, but chose to stay on as a clinical pharmacist because of the people. The pharmacy team at Avera is welcoming and uplifting, and I’m constantly inspired by my colleagues to learn more and do more.

Samantha Trumm, PGY1 graduate, Internal Medicine Preceptor and IPPE/APPE Co-Coordinator

pharm resident

I chose to pursue a residency at Avera because of the variety of programs and learning opportunities offered across the Avera footprint. What kept me at Avera post-residency were the growth-mindset culture, top-notch colleagues, and faith-based values. It’s good to call Avera home!

Emily Murray, PGY1 graduate and Evening Staffing Preceptor

pharmacy resident

The amount of growth I did within one year at Avera McKennan made it an easy decision to decide to stay on for my PGY2. You won’t find a health care system that cares more about their patients or a more amazing pharmacy staff. Regardless of your goals after residency, you will be well prepared to take on your pharmacy career backed by lifelong friends and mentors.

Brooke Bernu, Current PGY2 Psychiatry Resident and PGY-1 graduate

Dining room

As a resident, I learned that the current hospitalists actually use the pharmacists’ involvement as a recruitment tool for signing on new doctors. I chose to stay on as a clinical pharmacist because the reasons above remained true, and I felt motivated by my coworkers to maintain competent in the highest standards of care for each patient who came through the hospital’s doors.

Hannah Reedstrom, PGY1 graduate and Peds/NICU and SOT Preceptor

Pharmacy intern positions are available to students currently enrolled in pharmacy school. Approximately five P1s and five P2s are hired each November.

Each September, positions will be posted in our careers area.
