Volunteering makes a difference in the lives of our patients, visitors and staff. Giving to others feels good, perpetuates the spirit of caring and puts faith into action. Join the team of enthusiastic volunteers at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital in Aberdeen, SD, to experience the joy and satisfaction of helping others. The minimum age to volunteer is 16.

Among the many volunteer opportunities at Avera St. Luke’s, you can fulfill opportunities to:

• Serve as a receptionist or greeter.
• Help patients find their way in the hospital.
• Serve as a dental van host.
• Read and visit with nursing home residents.
• Assist with bingo or ice cream parlor.
• Water outside flowers.
• Support hospice care.
• Assist with blood drives.
• Use your creative skills at home to knit caps for chemotherapy patients — or sew or make crafts to sell to support patient programs.

Avera St. Luke's Auxiliary

Avera St. Luke’s Auxiliary, which includes more than 90 members, promotes and advances the welfare of Avera St. Luke’s through service as fundraisers, ambassadors and volunteers. Auxiliary members and volunteers provide more than 35,000 in-service hours to the hospital each year.

The Auxiliary has helped support several projects, such as our renovated Women’s Center, complete with an Angel Suite. They have also supported programs for our employees, such as the DAISY award for nurses and Schwartz Rounds sessions.
