Avera McKennan Visitor Hours & Visiting Policies
Special Notice
Visitation is limited to two visitors per patient at one time in hospitals, surgery centers, emergency departments and clinics during regular visitor hours.

Current guidelines are:
- Visitation hours are 6 a.m. - 8 p.m.
- Avera McKennan allows visitation for COVID-19 positive patients. No children under age 18 may visit a COVID-19 positive patient. Please stop by the front desk when checking in for additional guidelines.
- Masks are highly encouraged for asymptomatic patients.
- Visitors should not enter the facility if they have COVID-19 symptoms, have tested positive for COVID-19 in the last 10 days, have been exposed to COVID-19 in the last 10 days, or are waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test.
Avera McKennan Visiting Hours for General Care Areas
Visiting hours are 6 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. for most general care areas at Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center. Visitors can call 1-605-322-8000 to inquire about specific area visiting hours at the hospital.
Behavioral Health Services
In units for adults and seniors, visiting hours are 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 - 4:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Only immediate family members may visit our children's and adolescent units. Hours are 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 12:30 - 4 p.m. and 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on weekends and holidays.
Acute Care
Only immediate family visitors. Hours are 6 - 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1 - 8:30 p.m. weekends and holidays.
Critical and Intensive Care
Only immediate family visitors, age 14 and older, and no more than two visitors at a time. To allow for patient care needs, please refrain from visit from 6:30 - 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.
Surgery
Visitors in the second floor surgery waiting rooms in the hospital, or in the fourth floor waiting room in the Avera Surgery Center, will be kept informed of your progress.
Visitor Hours for Additional Care Areas
Women's Center, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric and Behavioral Health Units are secured units, 24 hours a day. For visiting guidelines, check with the nursing staff.
