Infusion Center
Receive your chemotherapy and infusion treatments under the care of some of the region’s foremost experts in cancer care. Most infusion suites are private and can be made semi-private by opening sliding doors. This gives patients the choice to receive infusions privately, with friends or family, or enjoying the company of other patients. Infusion suites feature custom-built chairs for comfort as well as TV and plenty of outlets for personal electronic devices.
Mammography
Avera St. Luke's Hospital offers 3D mammograms. Mammograms are an important health screening for women ages 40 and older. Request an appointment at this location or call 605-622-2550.

Lung Cancer Screening
A lung cancer screening is for patients who do not have symptoms yet but are at a high risk. The low-dose CT scan looks for lung nodules that may be early lung cancer. This screening offers the best chance of finding it in its earliest and most curable stages.
- Simple, 15-second screening administered by a quick pass across your chest.
- Reduces risk by 20% of lung cancer-related death.
- Recommended for anyone ages 50-77 who has at least a 20-pack-year smoking history, currently smokes or has quit within the last 15 years.
Ask your doctor for a referral or contact Avera Cancer Institute in Aberdeen.
Genetic Testing & Counseling
Our genetic testing and counseling team can help determine if you have higher risk for certain types of cancer based on your DNA and other risk factors. This approach helps you and your family members make informed decisions about prevention measures and screening options for early detection of cancer. Also, genetic testing can sometimes be used to guide the oncologist when providing treatment recommendations.
Cancer Research & Clinical Trials
Avera Cancer Institute’s clinical research advance the science of medicine, and may provide additional options for cancer patients who qualify for studies we’re enrolling for. Patients always receive evidence-based standard treatment for all types of cancer, yet clinical trials may provide additional options. Review a wide variety of clinical trials, including several studies currently enrolling patients.
Cancer Genomics
Using genomic testing, Avera’s cancer program can provide patients with personalized medicine, targeted therapies and treatment plans based on their personal cancer genes. Avera Cancer Institute is part of a global network of organizations — called the Worldwide Innovative Networking Consortium — working to make personalized cancer care a reality for patients worldwide.

Generous Partners in Healing
The building that houses our cancer program is named in honor of Don and Carmen Meyer and their commitment to quality cancer care in Aberdeen. The late Coach Meyer and his wife Carmen spoke extensively about the expert cancer care and access to advanced technology and expert treatment he received at Avera.
The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust provided a $3.4-million grant to equip the cancer center with a fully digital linear accelerator technology. This machine offers enhanced imaging and the capability for a full range of radiation treatments.
Holiday Hours
Our holiday hours may vary for major holidays, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Avera’s commitment to high-quality cancer care resulted in network accreditations from both the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (COC) and American Society of Clinical Oncology Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI). These accreditations and certifications verify quality and clinical excellence plus our ongoing dedication to performance improvement — ultimately benefiting patient care.
Commission on Cancer (CoC)
This American College of Surgeons has only granted 60 integrated network accreditations nationwide. To earn accreditation, a cancer program must meet 34 CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care.
QOPI® Certification Program
To achieve certification, Avera Cancer Institute had to meet or exceed national quality standards for cancer care. The QOPI Certification Program, LLC, designates Avera Cancer Institute as a large, multi-site practice, which includes the entire Avera Health system and all of our medical oncology and hematology services.
