Finding Us: This emergency department is on the east side of the hospital by the corner of East Adams Street and North 3rd Street. Convenient parking is available next to the emergency entrance driveway and is dedicated to ER patients and their friends and family.
If you or someone else is having a medical emergency, please call 911 right away. Avera St. Anthony’s Emergency has trained staff on call 24/7 to respond quickly to medical emergencies threatening a life, a limb or an organ.
As a certified Level V Trauma Center, if a patient requires a hospital stay, our expert emergency staff stabilizes them before their admission takes place. Avera also has specialized transport teams who operate Careflight helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft throughout the region when needed in emergencies, including transport to higher-level care centers such as Avera McKennan in Sioux Falls.

Avera’s emergency services are supported by telemedicine — giving you and your emergency care team immediate access to specialized personnel via two-way video, if needed for your care. These specialists act as extra eyes who assist your hands-on experts as they work swiftly to care for or stabilize you.

Our emergency department was designed with our patients in mind. If you arrive by ambulance, you are unloaded in our ambulance garage before entering the facility. This prevents exposure to the weather and helps protect your privacy.

Language Translation Available
Avera works with virtual interpreters to aid conversations with non-English speakers. Spoken language interpretation is available by phone or online for over 200 languages.

Same-day lab results and other diagnostic tests are available to you too. Right inside our facility, you have access to a wide range of laboratory services that contribute to accurate diagnoses of medical conditions. Expert specialists conduct safe and reliable lab testing, helping you and your provider get the results you need to start an effective and personalized treatment plan.

Radiology & Imaging
Imaging technology, including CT scans and X-rays, are available for clinical staff to order around the clock for patients visiting the emergency rooms. MRIs are available on weekdays from 8 AM – 5 PM.
