Finding Us: Our emergency department is located on the west side of Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital. Parking is available next to the building. Use the west entrance.
If you or someone else is having a medical emergency, please call 911 right away. Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital Emergency serves residents in and around Miller, SD. We have physicians and staff available 24/7 to provide emergency medicine services, and we are equipped with technology for high quality and safe emergency care.
If a patient requires a hospital stay, our staff will stabilize them for admission to our hospital, which is a Level IV Trauma Center. For higher level of care needs, we can arrange for safe transportation to surrounding regional facilities.

Avera’s emergency services are supported by telemedicine — giving you and your emergency care team immediate access to specialized personnel via two-way video, if needed for your care. These specialists act as extra eyes who assist your hands-on experts as they work swiftly to care for or stabilize you.
Patient-Focused Care
Our emergency department was designed with our patients in mind. If you arrive by ambulance, you are unloaded in our ambulance bay. Those not arriving by ambulance may follow the signage and look for the designated entrance on the west side of the hospital.
Our team will ensure you’re stabilized and cared for in a private area to further preserve your dignity. This flow of patient rooms also allows staff efficiency in serving patients and in team communication.
Laboratory
Same-day lab results and other diagnostic tests are available. Right inside our facility, you have access to a wide range of laboratory services that contribute to accurate diagnoses of medical conditions. Radiology & Imaging
Imaging technology, including X-rays and CT scans, is available for staff to order for patients visiting the emergency room.
