Pediatric Eye Care
A child's sight is not fully developed until age 8, providing a window of opportunity to reverse certain conditions before they become permanent. The specialists at Avera Medical Group Eye Care understand common pediatric eye conditions and have experience working with infants and children of all ages.
Children most often receive vision screenings at regular well-child visits. However, an ophthalmology appointment is recommended for children who have symptoms such as blurred vision, double vision, consistently closing one eye, eye misalignment, light sensitivity and squinting, droopy eyelid, excessive tearing, redness or discharge. Children who have not been screened by age 3 should have a complete eye exam to ensure proper development of vision prior to starting preschool.
