Avera Medical Group Nephrology specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and disorders of the kidneys and provides a full range of kidney care services including comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients with kidney stones, hypertension, diabetes and renal disease.

Located in Sioux Falls, SD our board-certified nephrologists serve the entire Avera region including South Dakota, and portions of Minnesota, Iowa, North Dakota and Nebraska. Avera Medical Group Nephrology is a department of Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center.

Our Services

Our unique services include diagnosis and treatment of all types of acute and chronic kidney disease, complex or resistant hypertension, fluid and electrolyte disorders, edema states, and kidney stone disease. We also provide:

  • Comprehensive evaluation and treatment of patients with diabetic kidney disease and kidney and/or pancreas transplants through the Avera Transplant Institute.
  • A full range of dialysis services including acute dialysis, chronic in-center hemodialysis and home dialysis, and both peritoneal and home hemodialysis.

Our board-certified nephrologists provide consultation on a wide spectrum of kidney diseases, including:

  • Obstetrical complications of high risk pregnancies
  • Congenital abnormalities
  • Complications of vascular disease and surgery
  • Hypertensive crisis
  • Nephrolithiasis
  • Endocrine and metabolic disorders
  • Complications of malignancy
  • Complex multi-trauma injury

Patient Information

New patients will be referred to us by your primary care physician who determines that you need to be seen by a nephrologist. We will ask your physician's office to fax or mail your medical records to us prior to your appointment. A Patient Medical History form will be mailed to you to complete and bring with you.

At the time of your appointment, we will ask you to complete a Patient Information sheet which asks for pertinent information needed for billing purposes. If you need lab work, we normally schedule your lab visit one hour prior to your appointment so that the doctor has the results for your visit.
